Where land meets sea is truly dramatic in many Isle of Skye photos. This shot clearly illustrates the striking contrasts, colours, and natural scenic beauty.

Thanks again to the natural beauty found on the Isle of Skye in Western Scotland, as well as the wonders of Creative Commons licensed content on Flickr.
While it’s doubtful that you’ll find these colours naturally, with the proper technique in HDR photoshoots, the Isle of Skye can come alive in vivid technicolor!

There are few places in the world with as many possible sunset photo opportunities as on Scotland’s Isle of Skye. This shot, as found on Flickr’s Creative Commons section, highlights what can be done with the right camera (and possibly HDR techniques).

Portree comes from the Gaelic Port-an-Righ which means Port of the Kings. This is presumably due to King James V paying the Isle a visit in the 1500’s (along with a substantial military fleet) as he tried to drum up support from the area clans.

The main town on the Skye, Portree has some decent shopping, plenty of places to stay and eat, and lovely views as well!

The road leading through the West Highlands of Scotland twist and wind, and at many times can barely support 40mph travel. The mountains and lochs greet you as leave the lowlands and enter one of the most beautiful places on earth.

After quite a long, arduous trip, you know that you are ‘almost there’ when you see the long, narrow Isle of Skye bridge. If it’s a windy day, there could be warnings of keeping your speed under control. But unless you’re driving a large delivery truck or camper van, the national speed limit will be fine. Just like most all the roads in the Highlands of Scotland, use some common sense - and Enjoy The View!

There are dozens of good places to get great shots, but they rarely turn out this amazing. I think the framing of flowers in the foreground and mountains in the back are part of what makes this such a great shot. The vivid colours and ominous clouds are the icing on the cake!

Though there are a good many rainy days on the Isle of Skye, you’ll seldom clouds such as these. If you have any lovely photos that you would like to share, be sure to use our contact form and give us a shout…

This beautiful sunset was captured by by Mac ind Og and posted on his Flickr channel.
